You can try the BoS questline for quite some time before you get "locked in" to anything and are forced to remain Brotherhood forever. Shoud note that there's no pressure to actually stay once you join. In previous Fallout games, I myself usually help the BoS to get their stuff, and then wind up betraying them later BECAUSE FREEEEDDDOOOOMMM. There is no "right" answer when it comes ot the BoS - some people love them, some people hate them, it's just a matter of personal philosophy and your own gut instincts. The BoS thinsk science and tech are great, but also extremely dangerous (remember that nuclear war?) and it falls on them, the Wasteland's Philosopher-Kings, to safeguard humanity from another global catastrophe.īasically, they're a mixture between a monastic knightly order and contemporary progressive technocrats. It's not so much that they want to kill everyone who's scientifically advanced, it's that they believe themselves to be the guardians of technology, and are more than happy to deprive other, less-responsible people (wastelanders and Vault Dwellers, for example) of their "freedom" to be self-destructive.
